Taiwanese Telecom Operators to Spend NT$30 Billion on 4G Equipment

Taiwan's major telecom operators including Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), FarEastone Telecom (FET), and Taiwan Mobile are estimated to invest around NT$30 billion (US$964.9 million; US$1=NT$31.092) in 4G network equipment this year, reported Commercial Times on April 7. Each operator plans to build 10,000 4G base stations, of which small cells will take a considerable share. CHT will spend NT$8.3 billion (US$266.9 million) on 4G equipment and start placing orders in the second quarter. FET will set aside NT$10.7 billion (US$344.1 million) for 3G and 4G equipment while Taiwan Mobile plans to put in NT$9.8 billion (US$315.2 million). In addition to small cells, CPE (Customer-premises equipment), routers, switches, antennas and microwave communication equipment will also be purchased.
